École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne

The École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) is one of the two Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology. It is Europe’s most cosmopolitan technical university with students, professors and staff from over 120 nations. A dynamic environment, open to Switzerland and the world, EPFL is centered on its three missions: teaching, research and technology transfer.

The research activity led in the Laboratory of Advanced Semiconductors for Photonics and Electronics (LASPE) aims at exploring the properties of quantized structures based on wide-bandgap III-nitride semiconductors for both photonics and electronics. This covers a broad research area ranging from pure fundamental studies, like the physics of wide-bandgap microcavities, photonic crystals and nanostructures, to device technology, like short-wavelength high frequency pulsed laser diodes or blue vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs).

The role of LASPE in SUPERTWIN is to realize a new short-wavelength (blue) entangled photon source intended for overcoming the limits of classical optics and hence entering in the super-resolution microscopy regime.

This project has received funding from the European Commission - H2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 686731 (SUPERTWIN project)
